A logo change can leave perfectly usable packaging carrying yesterday’s identity. Before ordering new tape, decide when the old design should stop appearing on outgoing parcels.
That decision belongs in the rebrand plan alongside the website, product labels and customer communications.
Choose a transition rule
There are several practical routes: use the remaining stock before switching, set a date after which only the new design is used, or reserve the old design for an appropriate internal purpose.
Which route fits depends on why the brand is changing. A cosmetic update and a change involving incorrect information are not the same situation. Do not use material containing misleading details simply to consume stock.
Record the chosen rule so staff do not make separate decisions at each packing station.
Count stock by artwork version
Count unopened rolls and estimate partly used stock separately. Record the current design, material and configuration with each quantity.
Use recent consumption to estimate how long the old artwork may remain in circulation. Do not assume a large sales forecast will use it up automatically.
If you cannot estimate the remaining length of an opened roll, mark that quantity as approximate. A planning estimate should not become a precise inventory claim.
Approve the replacement on the actual tape layout
A rebrand often changes proportions as well as colors. Check the new mark at the intended tape width and across the repeat, particularly if the design contains a longer name or smaller lettering.
Do not send the new logo with a message saying “everything else the same” if spacing, orientation or print option has changed. Identify the earlier order and list exactly what should remain.
BrandTapeCo confirms one-color, two-color and full-color printing. The revised artwork still needs order-specific review.
Keep an explicit stop-and-start record
Name the last approved old version and first approved new version. Store the replacement proof where staff can find it, and remove obsolete artwork from the active ordering folder while retaining an archive.
If a third party packs for you, tell them how to treat existing stock and ask them to acknowledge the switch. Sending replacement rolls is not enough to communicate the cutoff.
Check the other visible materials
Look at inserts, carton labels and product presentation together. A parcel can unintentionally carry three brand versions even when the tape has been updated.
This does not mean every element must be replaced on one date. It means the transition should be deliberate and understandable.
Size the first replacement order sensibly
Estimate the quantity needed during the transition and check the approved configuration. BrandTapeCo’s online minimum is 5 rolls per selected configuration; do not assume separate artwork versions can share that minimum.
Save the new proof and order reference as the active reorder record. A clear transition now prevents the old logo returning through a copied historical order later.
Frequently Asked Questions
Must I throw away all old tape?
Not automatically. Choose a transition based on accuracy, brand requirements and practical use. Avoid distributing misleading information.
Can a new logo use the old print layout?
It may require adjustments. Review proportions, repeat and lettering at the selected width.
What should I tell my fulfillment partner?
Identify both artwork versions, the cutoff rule and how remaining old stock should be handled.
