Water-Activated Tape Process Checklist for a Packing Station

Use a water-activated tape process checklist for carton preparation, dispenser activation, seam placement, inspection and exception recording.

Packing supervisors standardizing a water-activation process reviewing water-activated tape process checklist requirements at a packing station

A reliable water-activated tape process is a sequence, not a single machine setting. Prepare the real carton, feed and activate the selected tape under the dispenser manufacturer’s instructions, place it on the seam, then inspect the finished seal. This checklist defines what to observe; it does not invent a universal water volume, speed or drying time.

Before applying tape

  • Confirm the carton is the approved size and board type, with its flaps folded as the station instruction requires.
  • Check that the roll matches the approved material and custom width. BrandTapeCo offers 48 mm or 60 mm only; other widths, including 72 mm, are not available.
  • Verify the dispenser model and roll fit. Use the machine manual for loading, safe operation and water-delivery settings.
  • Clear a damaged, dusty or unusual carton for separate review rather than silently treating it as a normal sample.

During and after application

  1. Feed and cut a strip sized to the actual seam using the approved station method.
  2. Observe whether activation is even across the usable strip. If it is not, stop and check the dispenser rather than compensating by guessing a new setting.
  3. Place the tape centered on the joint and press it according to the local approved method, without hiding a known placement error under a second strip.
  4. Inspect the entire seal for lifting, wrinkles, missed coverage, board damage and legibility of any required printed message.
  5. Record exceptions with carton, station, operator, roll and time. Set the box aside or escalate under the site’s quality procedure.

When to revise the checklist

Retest when the corrugated board, box dimensions, tape construction, width, dispenser or operator method changes. A controlled application trial can establish the station’s baseline. If seals differ between shifts, the troubleshooting guide helps separate board, equipment and process factors.

The standard online custom roll is 50 m, with at least five rolls per design and color configuration. A different length is a feasibility question for sales and requires a separate written quote; it may not be possible. Keep the approved product configuration and machine requirements together, and check the current product page before reordering.
