Full-Color Custom Gummed Tape: Prepare Artwork for a Real Roll

Prepare full-color gummed tape artwork with actual-width proofs, repeat checks, color references and an order-specific production review.

Brands evaluating full-color tape printing reviewing full-color custom gummed tape requirements at a packing station

Full-color artwork gives a designer more elements to manage, not a guarantee that a screen image will print exactly as shown. Before ordering, reduce the design to the actual 48 mm or 60 mm tape width, check what a normal cut will show, and ask the supplier to confirm the production proof and any limitations for that file.

Start with the intended viewing moment

Decide whether the mark must be recognized on a sealed shipping carton, during unboxing, or on the roll itself. Photograph the actual carton, including labels and edges, then place the proposed pattern over the seam. If a message is important, make sure a short normal strip does not cut it in half every time.

Artwork review questions

  • Is text legible at the selected tape width, not just when zoomed in on a monitor?
  • Do photographs, gradients or fine details depend on a print resolution or color range that the supplier has not confirmed?
  • Are logo and color references supplied with the file and tied to one approved version?
  • Does the repeat make sense when the tape is cut, rotated or wrapped over a box edge?
  • Have brand and packing teams approved the same proof?

BrandTapeCo offers a full-color custom printing option, but this article does not state an unverified print resolution, color tolerance, ink system or price advantage. Those details must be confirmed for the actual artwork and order. Use the color-reference guide for approval language and the repeat-pattern guide for cut points.

Move from design file to order

  1. Send the editable artwork and tell the supplier which elements and colors are essential.
  2. Ask what file formats and proof process are accepted; do not assume a particular application file is production-ready.
  3. Review the proof at actual width on a representative carton.
  4. Keep the accepted proof, material, width, design/color configuration, quantity and written quote in one order record.

Only 48 mm and 60 mm custom widths are offered; 72 mm and other widths are unavailable. Standard online rolls are 50 m with a five-roll minimum per design and color configuration. A different roll length requires sales to assess feasibility and quote separately in writing and is not guaranteed. Review the current product options.
