Custom water-activated tape can make a shipping seal visible, but no tape makes a box tamper-proof. Whether lifting that printed or plain strip leaves an observable mark depends on the board, tape, application and handling. Define the inspection question for your own cartons before making any security claim.
Start with a clean reference seal
Choose the actual corrugated box, filled contents, tape construction and dispenser used in normal packing. Record the board supplier or grade if known, the selected 48 mm or 60 mm tape width, application method, and photos of an undisturbed seal. This baseline lets an inspector compare later marks with ordinary folds, print, dust or shipping scuffs.
Observe disturbance under a defined procedure
- Agree in advance which visible changes staff will look for: torn board fibers, lifted edges, wrinkles, a broken printed pattern, resealing marks or other specific observations.
- Use a representative sealed carton for a controlled internal inspection exercise. Record what was done and when it was observed; do not present it as an independent security certification.
- Photograph the whole box and the seam close-up, including any ordinary handling damage on untouched boxes. This helps separate a likely seal disturbance from routine wear.
- Have the operations owner decide what happens when a mark is seen: set aside, document, inspect contents under company procedure, or escalate. A visual cue is useful only if staff know the next step.
| Observation | Question for the reviewer |
|---|---|
| Lifted tape edge | Was it present at packing, or did it appear after handling? |
| Board fiber damage | Is it at the seal, a fold, or another contact point? |
| Broken printed repeat | Could the break be caused by a normal cut or label placement? |
| Different appearance between boxes | Did board, activation, material or operator process differ? |
Keep the conclusion narrow
Do not describe the tape as “tamper-proof” or guarantee detection from a small internal trial. The defensible record is narrower: on these cartons, with this tape and packing method, staff observed specified visible changes under specified conditions. Recheck if the board or process changes. For an application baseline, use the water-activated tape test guide.
BrandTapeCo offers custom kraft and reinforced kraft water-activated tape in 48 mm and 60 mm widths only. The standard online roll is 50 m, and each design and color configuration has a five-roll minimum. Other widths, including 72 mm, are unavailable; nonstandard length is only subject to separate sales feasibility review and written quote. Check the current product page before specifying an order.
