Water-Activated Tape in Fulfillment Centers: Pilot Before Rollout

Roll out water-activated tape in a fulfillment center by testing real carton groups, confirming dispenser fit and training each station on one approved specification.

Fulfillment center managers reviewing water-activated tape for fulfillment centers requirements at a packing station

A fulfillment center should not switch every packing station based on one attractive sample. First test the cartons and dispensers that represent the work, then publish a station instruction with an approved material, width and application method. A pilot can reveal exceptions; it cannot guarantee identical results across all shifts and box suppliers.

Choose a pilot that represents the floor

Map the main carton groups, the smallest and largest regular seam, the dispenser models, and any stations with a different workflow. Select a pilot station and representative boxes, including filled contents. Record the current seal problems or objectives before making a change, so the team knows what the pilot is meant to answer.

Agree on one controlled setup

BrandTapeCo’s custom tape uses kraft or reinforced kraft paper, water-activated adhesive and one of two widths: 48 mm or 60 mm. Check the seam and the machine maker’s compatible dimensions before selecting a width. Other custom widths, including 72 mm, are unavailable. Use the dispenser manufacturer’s instructions for water and maintenance settings; a blog cannot prescribe one universal value.

Expand only after checking exceptions

  1. Run the pilot on the selected carton groups and record acceptable and problematic seals.
  2. Document which station steps must be repeated and which carton or machine combinations need another test.
  3. Train each shift with the actual carton and dispenser, not just a slide or sample strip.
  4. Roll out station by station, retaining a clear way for operators to report lifting, feed or placement issues.
  5. Recheck when board source, box geometry, dispenser or approved tape changes.

See the operator training guide for handoff, and the troubleshooting guide when a station differs from the pilot.

Standard online custom rolls are 50 m with at least five rolls per design and color configuration. If your equipment requires a different roll length, sales can assess it and issue a separate written quote; availability is not guaranteed. Confirm the orderable product options before committing the rollout schedule.
