A light product does not always travel in a light-duty carton, and “lightweight” does not automatically determine the tape construction. For a small shipping box, first check the corrugated surface and seam, then whether the chosen water-activated tape feeds and seals consistently at the packing station. Compare regular kraft and reinforced kraft only when the actual carton and route make that choice relevant.
Three checks before you buy
1. Can the tape cover the real seam cleanly?
Lay 48 mm and 60 mm paper strips across the smallest regular box and any other box that will share the tape. Look for edge overlap, label interference and how much of the logo repeat will remain visible. These are BrandTapeCo’s only custom widths; do not plan around 72 mm or another unavailable width. The seam coverage guide walks through this comparison.
2. Does the station handle it repeatably?
Confirm dispenser compatibility with the selected roll width. Follow the machine maker’s instructions for feed, cutting and wetting, then observe the operator applying tape to the actual carton. A short box can be easy to misalign if the strip is cut or placed inconsistently. Record the result instead of assuming an equipment setting from another site will transfer.
3. Does the packed box survive your own handling check?
Use the real contents, inserts and outer carton. Observe the seal at packing and after the handling steps relevant to your operation; note any lifting, wrinkling or board damage. If you compare kraft and reinforced kraft, hold the carton and application method constant. This trial is not a guarantee for every shipping route or corrugated supplier.
When regular kraft or reinforced kraft may be the better candidate
Regular kraft paper can be the first candidate to test when the filled box and process do not call for reinforcement. A reinforced construction may be worth comparing when the carton, handling or internal specification raises that question. Neither choice should be justified by a generic weight label alone. See the material comparison for a side-by-side trial approach.
Keep the purchase record small but complete
Record carton dimensions and board, tape material, offered width, dispenser, artwork version and observed application result. BrandTapeCo’s standard online custom roll is 50 m, with at least five rolls per design and color configuration. A different length must be assessed by sales and separately quoted in writing; it may not be feasible. The current product page shows the orderable choices.
