Peak-Season Custom Packaging Tape: Plan From Cartons, Not Guesswork

Plan custom tape for a peak season by estimating 50 m-roll demand from actual carton use, locking artwork, and confirming order-specific production and delivery dates.

E-commerce operations teams preparing peak demand reviewing peak season custom packaging tape planning requirements at a packing station

Peak-season tape shortages usually start before the packing line: carton volume was guessed, artwork approval slipped, or the reorder request lacked a firm specification. Build the plan from expected boxes and actual tape cut lengths, then ask sales for a written schedule tied to the real order. This page does not promise stock, production capacity or delivery by a particular date.

Calculate a working roll requirement

Group orders by the cartons they use. Measure the typical tape cut for each top and bottom seal, then multiply by expected boxes for the peak period. Add your own allowance for changeovers, rejected seals and demand uncertainty. Divide the resulting metres by 50 m per standard roll and round up to whole rolls. Keep the assumptions beside the forecast so purchasing can update it when box mix changes.

BrandTapeCo’s standard online minimum is five 50 m rolls per design and color configuration. That is a purchasing floor, not a recommendation that five rolls will cover your season. A bespoke single roll can cost more than the five standard rolls together; check the live product price and written quote instead of assuming a small custom quantity is cheaper.

Work backwards from the first packing date

  1. Confirm the carton and tape specification: kraft or reinforced kraft, 48 mm or 60 mm custom width, design/color configuration and dispenser fit. Other widths, including 72 mm, are not offered.
  2. Freeze the artwork version and appoint one proof approver. A changed logo or color reference can require another review.
  3. Request a written quotation and order-specific production and delivery dates. Do not substitute a generic lead-time article for the actual supplier response.
  4. Plan the internal approval deadline before the required dispatch date, then decide what the packing line will use if the date or forecast changes.
  5. Reconcile actual tape usage against the forecast during the peak period and update the next reorder point.

The lead-time planning guide helps separate approval, production and transit milestones. For a repeat order, use the reorder record so the specification does not drift.

Do not hide unusual requirements in the forecast

If a 50 m roll does not suit the station, ask sales whether a different length is feasible and obtain a separate written quote. It is not a guaranteed option. Keep that decision separate from width: custom tape is available only in 48 mm and 60 mm. Review the current product configuration before approving the purchase.
